Meet Dr. Aka
Raised in Torrance, California, Dr. Aka is a graduate of the University of California at San Diego (B.A., Animal Physiology) and the University of California at Los Angeles (DDS). During his four years as a dental student at UCLA, Dr. Aka volunteered at several children’s dental clinics. Quickly discovering that children were fun and that “big people were scary,” he made the easy decision to dedicate his career to caring for the dental needs of infants, children and young adults. As a result, after completing the requirements for his DDS degree, Dr. Aka applied to and was accepted by the UCLA School of Dentistry’s Postdoctoral Program in Pediatric Dentistry. During the final year of his two-year residency, Dr. Aka was chosen by the faculty, staff and peers to serve as Chief Resident.
Upon graduation, Dr. Aka was offered the position of Director of Pediatric Dentistry for the Hawaii Dental Group (HDG). He could not resist the opportunity to live and work in Hawaii. Following five years with HDG, he ventured onward to “sunny” Seattle, worked as an associate for pediatric dentists in Seattle and Tacoma until ultimately opening his own practice, Plateau Dentistry for Children.
Currently, Dr. Aka, his wife, Jill, and their son, Cuyler, live on the plateau in Issaquah with their dog, Newman.
Dr. Aka is a member of the American Dental Association (ADA), the Washington State Dental Association (WSDA), the Seattle/King County Dental Society, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) and the Seattle Pedodontic Study Club. He is licensed to practice dentistry in Washington and Hawaii.
